Critics of the twice-yearly time change were hoping this was their year. Earlier this year, the U.S. House passed the Sunshine Protection Act - the Trump-backed plan that would allow states to opt into year-round daylight saving time – and all that was needed was a Senate OK.
That has proven difficult, however, and there’s no Senate vote on the measure on the calendar. The Senate is in session Sept. 28, 29, 30 and Oct. 1-2 before breaking for the remainder of October and not reconvening until Nov. 9. That’s more than a week after the Nov. 1 change from daylight to standard time.

In other words, don’t expect any reprieve from the time change this year.
The dates for DST were set by the Energy Policy Act of 2005, which amended the Uniform Time Act of 1966 and established a shorter DST window. Under the Uniform Time Act, states may exempt themselves and remain on standard time year-round. However, federal law prohibits states from permanently observing DST without Congressional action.
Daylight saving time will officially end Nov. 1 at 2 a.m. (meaning 2 a.m. becomes 1 a.m.), shifting daylight hours earlier in the day. That schedule remains until Sunday, March 14, 2027, when clocks will “spring forward” one hour to return to DST.

Barring Congressional action, schedule for the start and end of daylight saving time for the next decade is:
- 2027 – Begins March 14, ends Nov. 7
- 2028 – Begins March 12, ends Nov. 5
- 2029 – Begins March 11, ends Nov. 4
- 2030 – Begins March 10, ends Nov. 3
- 2031 – Begins March 9, ends Nov. 2
- 2032 – Begins March 14, ends Nov. 7
- 2033 – Begins March 13, ends Nov. 6
- 2034 – Begins March 12, ends Nov. 5
- 2035 – Begins March 11, ends Nov. 4
- 2036 – Begins March 9, ends Nov. 2.
