MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. — Kali-Oka Road just north of Highway 158 has reopened to traffic following roadway reconstruction and large drainage structure improvements.
Temporary pavement markings are in place. Permanent striping will be completed after the new asphalt has cured, which requires approximately two weeks. The road will not be closed again for striping, but motorists should expect possible delays and use caution while crews complete the remaining work.
The improvements are part of Mobile County's ongoing effort to improve safety, drainage and drivability along the Kali-Oka Road/College Parkway corridor, which is in Mobile County Commission District 1.
The project is funded through the 2020 and 2024 Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG) Transportation Improvement Programs, Rebuild Alabama and the American Rescue Plan Act. PAYG finances road and bridge improvements without new taxes or long-term debt. Since 1977, Mobile County voters have approved PAYG all 20 times it has appeared on the ballot.
