A Cullman man is facing multiple charges after a domestic incident and subsequent standoff Friday. Jonathan Patrick Young has been charged with second-degree elder abuse and neglect, first-degree making a terroristic threat, and second-degree kidnapping. Young’s 80-year-old father was injured in the incident. His elderly mother was held against her will inside the home during the standoff but was unharmed. Cullman police responded at 10:50 a.m. Friday to the domestic violence call near the 1700 block of Third Avenue S.W. They arrived to find the elderly victim outside of the home. According to law enforcement radio traffic, the victim was bleeding profusely. Police quickly learned Young was reported to have numerous guns in the home. Multiple law enforcement officers descended on the home including Cullman police, Cullman County deputies, ALEA, Cullman Fire and Rescue, Cullman EMS and District Attorney Champ Crocker. A police negotiator established contact with Young, who confirmed that he was armed and refused to exit the residence. As negotiations continued, a tactical unit safely rescued Young’s mother from the home. She was then evaluated by Cullman EMS. Young ultimately surrendered without further incident. He is being held in the Cullman County Jail.
