By William Thornton; Wthornton Com•October 16, 2026
An Alabama business executive has been appointed as president and CEO of the American Trucking Associations. Mark Colson, CEO of the Alabama Trucking Association since 2019, is a former interim president of the Business Council of Alabama. He will begin serving Dec. 1. Colson also served as senior vice president of governmental affairs, and chief of staff with the BCA, where he worked closely with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the National Association of Manufacturers. The American Trucking Associations is the largest and national trade association for the trucking industry, with links to all 50 states. Colson has spent more than 20 years representing trucking professionals. “This is a unique moment for ATA to make a renewed commitment to the trucking industry and the professionals who call our industry home,” Colson said. “The values that trucking leaders and professionals hold dear were instilled in me at an early age in my family’s second-generation tire shop, Blow-Out Tire Company, where I grew up changing truck tires. They have followed me throughout my career fighting for the hard-working men and women throughout our industry, and it is a privilege to continue that fight alongside the team and members of ATA.” A graduate of Huntingdon College, Colson was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame for football. He earned an MBA from Troy University and serves on Huntingdon College’s Board of Trustees and Executive Committee. Colson will become the tenth president and CEO in ATA’s history since its founding in 1933.
