A man who allegedly killed two of his relatives with a chainsaw was ordered to receive emergency medical treatment Friday.
According to court records, Thomas Steele, 47, is to “immediately and on an emergency basis” be taken to the Alabama Department of Mental Health to receive an in-patient evaluation that determines if he is competent to stand trial.
Judge Wesley Pipes made the filing after determining an outpatient evaluation initially ordered on Oct. 13 would not be sufficient to ascertain Steele’s mental health given that it had “deteriorated” since then.
The evaluation is to take place no later than Oct. 20.
Steele is facing capital murder charges for the deaths of his grandmother Dora Boone, 85, and his aunt, Christy Deloach, 65.
According to court records, Steele allegedly used a chainsaw to decapitate the two women Monday in their home at 2402 Carolina Court in Mobile.
During an initial bond appearance in court Tuesday, Steele was ordered removed from the courtroom after he said “kill him” when asked about having a public defender represent him.
Steele was being held without bond at the Mobile County Metro Jail but it is unclear if he has been transported to a mental health facility yet.
